Ride-out Familiarisation(Training)

A light hearted session to develop and brush up those ride leader and back-marking skills. Fancy organising and leading your own ride? Is the drop-off system a mystery? Are you worried about how to plan a ride? Come along and find out! Experienced and new members welcome.

Members Meeting

Simon Parry will be talking about his Triumph Tiger adventure motorcycle ride to Bonneville Salt flats. The ride took him through the Mojave Desert, over high mountain passes, through spectacular canyons and along the original trails of the old Wild West. Tour highlights include: Riding the old Pony Express trail; a visit to Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway; riding through snow in the Rocky Mountains at over 10,000 feet; riding through Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon and The Valley of Fire; riding the spectacular Hogback trail and Burr trail; and visiting the childhood home of Butch Cassidy.

Ride up to Duns with a coffee stop at the Lavender Tea Rooms, Etal. Lunch at the Mayfield Garden Centre, Kelso and finishing at Otterburn Mill. Total distance approximately 180 miles.

Left at Fox pub to Allendale (B6304) coffee stop at the Forge Allendale . Then past Allenheads , to St John's Chapel turning right to Langdon Beck (tricky little turning) left onto B6277 to Middleton Teesdale, turn right onto B6276 to Brough at Brough left A685 to Kirby Stephen (petrol stop Shell garage on left) follow A685 through Kirby Stephen to Tebay right at r/about to Orton (B6260) lunch at Chocolate Cafe Orton . Depart Orton onto B6261 to Shap . Turn right onto A6 through Shap to Penrith then onto A686 Alston (Petrol and comfort stop) A686 to Haydon Bridge , right onto A69 to Brockbushes garden centre . end of rideout (167 miles)

Stirling Weekend

Bank Holiday weekend trip to Stirling (24th-27th May). Check-in from 2pm. Dinner 7pm.

Michael Sutherland is leading a group ride to Stirling. Anyone wishing to join him must be at Seaton Burn Services for 9.30am on Friday morning.

Bike Control Skills(Training)

An informal training session in a safe environment to help you develop and improve some vital bike handling skills. The session will include:

  • braking to a controlled stop
  • negotiating obstacles
  • executing tight turns from a standstill

One-to-one and small group tuition with members of the Observer Team. No tests, no hard question; lots of encouragement and support. Especially for Associates but all welcome.

The venue is outdoors and there are norefreshments or toilets!

150 mile ride around Weardale with coffee at Stanhope and lunch at the Forge Café in Allendale.

Associate Ride Out (Associate Ride)

North Yorkshire, Thirsk, Masham and Richmond. Approximately 130 miles with 3 stops. Aiming to be back on Tyneside for 4pm.

This ride has been designed for Associate members and those who are new to riding in an organised group. The ride will be at a more relaxed pace with plenty of breaks. All Associates, new members, pillions and guest riders are welcome. Please be at Seaton Burn services fuelled up for 9.30am to be in time for the ride briefing and prompt departure of the first group at 10.00am. (Bring a drink and a sandwich for lunch at Thirsk)

Bedale, Leyburn and Masham.

Associate Ride Out - Selkirk Water Wheel (Associate Ride)

A ride of 160 miles from Seaton Burn with coffee at Otterburn. Then via Keilder to Selkirk Water Wheel for lunch. Return via Kelso, Coldstream, and Wooler to finish at Heighlygate.

Lunch will be provided at the Water Wheel for £12/head if required, booked in advance. Hands will be counted before the start of the ride.

Ladies Weekend - Skipton (Ladies Ride)

Group ride to the Rendezvous Hotel, Skipton via Staindrop, Leyburn. Lunch at the Wensleydale Experience.

Evening Ride and Social

Curry run to the Drift Café at Cresswell. We will have exclusive use of the café for the evening club. This has proved to be a sociable and enjoyable evening on the Northumberland coast. Restaurant quality food at café for only £12/person! Even if you are not eating, come along for a drink and to meet up with members of the group. New members especially welcome.

Menu: Vegetable or chicken curry followed by Affogato desert! Hot beverages and soft drinks also available.

The first group will leave Seaton Burn Services at 6.30pm. Please be ready for the safety briefing at 6.15pm.

Route: North on the A1 turning off at the St Leonard's junction on the Morpeth by-pass (8 miles). Continue north on the B1337 through the villages of Longhirst, Ulgham and Widdrington Station. Briefly join the A1068 turning right at the Widdrington Inn to Druridge Bay. Follow this minor road south along the coast to Cresswell. There is a dedicated car park immediately before the café on the right. (Total 21 miles) The organised part of the ride ends here. The evening ends by about 8.45 to make your own way home.

Kielder and Hawick to St Mary’s Loch, then back via Selkirk to join the A68 at Carter Bar. Finish at Ponteland. 193 miles.

Jack Lormor Memorial Charity Ride (Associate Ride)

This ride is open to Full Members, Associates and invited guests. All donations will go to The Great North Air Ambulance.

Please ensure your guests are familiar with the drop-off system before the ride.

Trip to the Air Museum at Duxford on Saturday 2nd November 2019. Ten double-rooms have been booked at the Holiday Inn Express, Duxford, Cambridge for Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd November 2019.
